The Marinelli foundry

The Marinelli foundry is the oldest foundry in Europe. It is the official foundry of the Vatican and will celebrate its jubilee in the year 2000.

It belongs to the same family of founders who have been located in the same place, in Agnone in the region of Molise for the past 1000 years.

The foundry is specialized in commemorative bells, characterized by remarkable ornamentation. The United Nations Peace Bell was cast in 1995. A new seven ton great bell was made for the year 2000 for St. Peter’s basilica in Rome.

Now, the foundry owns a museum in order to diversify its activities and to introduce the general public to the exceptional family collection. This includes even the scattered objects found inside the foundry and of no commercial or pedagogical use.
