Bazzanti, Niccolò (Nicholas), ital. Sculptor,
1802 Florence, there until 1849 Studied: Academy
of the Beaux Arts in Florence with Lorenzo Bartolini.
Under the time frame Bazzanti obtained much attention
with sculptures such as Diana che si bagna, Inverno
(Allegory figures for the Florentine typographer
Batelli, in 1838) and with the statue Andrea
Orcagna for the loggias of the Uffizi. In Santo
Spirito he worked the Epitaph of the Amalia Bazzanti
(1850). Also Pietro Bazzanti probably worked
together with the sculptor Giuseppe Moisè
(which operated 1822-1925) an in existing workshop
within the Palazzo Corsini. Bazzanti dedicated
himself to the creation of monuments and tomb
sculptures with figures and angels, which approached
the purist tastes to within classical tradition.
In Great Britain there are numerous well-preserved
signed example. Grave sculpture occupies and
formed a majority of commissions from customers.
These works are noted in he Handbooks of Murray
across Florence for English clientele.
